Public Consultation on proposed changes to Cathedral Academy Admissions Policy 2019/2020
The Governing Body of Cathedral Academy is currently consulting on proposed changes to the Academy’s Admissions Policy for the 2019/2020 school year.
The area for consultation surrounds the oversubscription criterion which is used to determine a child’s priority for a school place from September 2019.
Cathedral Academy has always had a strong reputation in the Performing Arts subjects and is home to the CAPA Juniors Pathway – a specialist performing arts provision attractive to young people wishing to study a broad and balanced curriculum with an emphasis on a future in the arts. In previous years the school has been under- subscribed and has been able to admit students to this provision without the need for any over-subscription criteria or auditioning process. As the popularity of the academy and CAPA Juniors grows the Academy is looking to adopt a new admissions policy to reflect our curriculum plans and meet the needs of the local community.
It is proposed that Cathedral Academy will select 10% (maximum of 21 students) of its intake by aptitude in one or more of the Performing Arts: Dance, Drama or Music. Selection will be by an audition process.
Cathedral Academy is still committed to remaining a community school serving its local catchment area.
Applicants to Cathedral Academy would continue to apply using the Wakefield Council’s online application system or via the Common Application Form.
Applicants for the CAPA Juniors Pathway must also complete the academy’s Supplementary Information Form (SIF).
This consultation will run from Thursday 30th November 2017 through until Thursday 25th January 2018. Responses to the consultation are invited to be made to the Principal and/or the Chair of Governors by 25th January 2018 to email@example.com.

We look forward to receiving any responses from interested parties and in response will decide on our final admission arrangements. Those decisions will be published on our website by the 15th March 2018.
