Careers Education & Guidance at Cathedral Academy

Cathedral Academy is committed to providing careers education and guidance to ensure that students are well prepared for life after leaving school. Information, Advice and Guidance is provided by the school Careers Adviser, based at Cathedral Academy two days a week. Additional support is provided through the Wakefield Connexions Service.

Advice and guidance starts in Year 8 with activities centered on GCSE option choices.  This will take place in the spring term when parents and students are invited to school for a GCSE Options Evening.

During Year 10 all students are offered a mock interview.  Local employers and training providers support the school in delivering this very beneficial experience for students. Links with local colleges are well established and Year 10 students are able to experience taster days at Pontefract NEW College and Wakefield College in the summer term.

Skills Yorkshire and Humber is an annual careers fair with a wide range of local providers across the district.  Year 10 and 11 students have the opportunity to attend this as an organised trip through school.

Careers focused activities take place in Form Time and students have the opportunity to access one to one guidance interviews at key transition points.  Online applications for Post 16 opportunities are made through UCAS Progress and this process starts early in Year 11.

Further information about the range of post 16 options is also delivered through assemblies and college and 6th form Open Events are widely advertised.

Apprenticeship opportunities through local training providers are advertised in school and students are supported in the application process e.g. CV writing, preparation for interviews.
