Rewarding success

Cathedral Academy has a clear Behaviour for Learning policy which outlines the high expectations we have for student behaviour and how we celebrate student success. All students, regardless of age or background, are expected to reflect their belonging in the academy by displaying consistently high standards of manners, behaviour and attitude both inside and outside of the academy community.

The academy is a friendly, calm and inspirational place to be – and a great deal of this comes from the excellent behaviour of our students. Our focus is on rewarding excellent behaviour. Students are awarded Achievement Points for when they consistently reflect our expectations, or exceed them.

As a parent you will be updated via text messages and postcards when your child attains a certain number of points and we encourage you to also congratulate them on their success at home. Similarly, Behaviour Points are given on any occasion where students fail to meet our standards. This will affect the overall number of Achievement Points and the potential reward at the end of term. You will be updated regarding the balance of points, and we will always offer support to help students meet expectations.

The academy holds regular ‘Rewards Weeks’ where those students with high attendance, a high balance of Achievement Points and those who have completed a full term without receiving any Behaviour Points are celebrated.

Key to the success of this approach is how students know what to expect in each and every classroom, regardless of subject or the teacher. All staff follow the academy’s Behaviour for Learning policy, and students receive comprehensive information so that they understand how their excellent behaviour will be rewarded.
